Promises

A group of girls was crowded around a petite lioness girl.  Her ears were flat against her head and tail swaying worriedly; tears were in her eyes.  "I was.." The next word sent my blood pumping and a hiss escaped my clenched teeth. My tail was gripped in my hands so hard it hurt. They all turned around and glared at me, the girl's head popped up and she cringed at seeing me so enraged. It was Kindle… she starred at me with wide golden eyes. "P-Paider." She raided a hand to her chest hiccupping on a sob. But I could just barely hear her as I ran to my room.

I slammed my door; leaned against it sliding down onto the soft carpeted floor and buried my face into my hands as I sniffled. I had promised to protect her and I had failed. It may have only been a promise to myself but it was still a promise. "Little flame…" I sniffled and hugged my knees a moment later.

Standing I walked over to my dresser and routed through it searching for the box my mother had given me.  Finding it I opened the box and starred down at the ring inside.  A silver band with two intertwining hearts.  A promise to the girl I choose that I will always be there for her. My promise to my Little Flame.
